Abstract
Das vorliegende Buch hat die Interpunktion des Deutschen zum Thema, genauer die Form und Funktion der Interpunktionszeichen.Schon der Titel zeigt, dass es sich hierbei nicht um eine (weitere) Erläuterung zum Amtlichen Regelwerk handelt, sondern dass die Autorin aus einer gänzlich neuen Perspektive das Interpunktionssystem rekonstruiert.Sie möchte eine Online-Auffassung etablieren, mit der die Interpunktionszeichen im Hinblick auf den Leseprozess und die von ihnen in Gang gesetzten Sprachverarbeitungsmechanismen analysiert werden können.Die Arbeit ist in fünf Kapitel gegliedert, wobei Kapitel II (Form) und III (Funktion) den Hauptbestandteil bilden.Ein hilfreiches Stichwortverzeichnis, mit dem man schnell den Text durchsuchen könnte, fehlt leider.Das Literaturverzeichnis ist aktuell und umfassend.Im Rahmen dieser Rezension können nicht alle Aspekte ausführlich kommentiert werden, daher richtet sich das Hauptaugenmerk auf nur wenige Forschungsresultate. Nach der Erläuterung der Fragestellung Ϫ also die Rekonstruktion des Interpunktionssystems des gegenwärtigen Deutsch Ϫ kommentiert Bredel kurz die der Arbeit zugrundeliegenden Annahmen über das Schriftsystem: die Kompositionalität der Elemente der Schrift, die Autonomie des Schriftsystems und die Online-Auffassung.Letzteres verdient hier eine kurze Erklärung.Die Online-Auffassung beschreibt ein besonderes Verhältnis zwischen Schreiber und Leser.Im Fokus steht nicht die syntaktische Einheit, die das Setzen eines bestimmten Interpunktionszeichens verlangt.Vielmehr wird der Sprachverarbeitungsprozess, der durch das gesetzte Zeichen beim Leser ausgelöst wird, in den Vorder-
