France-Aluminium-Québec (Fralubec) est un projet porté à la fois par l’Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) française et par le Fonds Québécois de la Recherche Scientifique et Culturelle (FQRSC). Il vise à une histoire comparée d’Alcan et de Pechiney, autour du thème « stratégies internationales et interventions locales : héritage organisationnel et héritage territorial de deux multinationales de l’industrie de l’aluminium ». Il s’organise autour de trois axes majeurs : 1/ stratégies croisées de deux multinationales de l’aluminium, entre concurrence et coopération ; 2/ entreprises de l’aluminium et territoire ; 3/ culture organisationnelle et modèles de gestion dans un environnement multiculturel. À son achèvement en mars 2015, il débouche sur des résultats significatifs. En premier lieu, il a permis une meilleure connaissance de deux firmes, tant au niveau de leurs stratégies globales que de la dialectique global-local (cas de la France, du Royaume-Uni, de la Norvège et du Brésil). L’objectif est notamment de déboucher sur des études comparées (entre Pechiney et Alcan ou Alusuisse, voire d’autres grandes firmes) et d’expliquer la genèse de la fusion de 2003. En second lieu, les recherches menées ont abouti à mieux comprendre les relations nouées entre les multinationales et les vallées de l’aluminium (Arvida et le Saguenay, Maurienne), sans exclure des comparaisons nationales (Pyrénées françaises) et internationales (Cameroun, Madagascar). Enfin, ont été engagés, à travers une campagne d’interviews, des travaux permettant de mieux comprendre la spécificité des modes de gestion des ressources humaines dans les deux entreprises, notamment chez Alcan.
