Malgré la présence croissante de personnes adultes immigrantes en apprentissage de la langue et de la littératie (PAIALeL) dans les cours de français L2, peu d’études réalisées en salle de classe ont porté sur cette population. Celles-ci ont démontré que des approches centrées sur l’apprenant étaient à préconiser. Parmi ces approches, il a été établi que l’approche par tâches basées sur la compréhension permettait aux PAIALeL d’appréhender des notions lexicales et grammaticales concrètes. Étant donné l’efficacité de cette approche, il importait de déterminer si elle pouvait être adaptée pour permettre aux PAIALeL de s’approprier des notions abstraites, telles que la temporalité. Nous avons adapté l’approche à cette fin et avons mis à l’essai une séquence pédagogique à deux reprises dans des groupes intacts de PAIALeL. Pour déterminer si la séquence pédagogique ainsi créée pouvait être mise en œuvre auprès de cette population, nous avons consigné des notes de terrain au cours de l’intervention et avons demandé à des élèves 1 d’effectuer des tâches en production à la fin de chacune des périodes de mise à l’essai. L’ensemble des données recueillies a révélé qu’en apportant des modifications mineures à l’approche, il serait possible d’amener des PAIALeL à effectuer des liens forme-sens sur la temporalité.
