En todo el mundo, Enfermeros de Prctica Avanzada (EPAs) brindan una amplia gama de servicios de atencin directa a personas en todas las etapas de la vida 1 . Adems de tratar enfermedades, ensean a las personas y a sus familias sobre cmo llevar una vida sana, prevenir y controlar enfermedades 2 . En la mayora de los pases, este profesional esencial de la salud pasa por varias etapas a lo largo de su proceso educativo para convertirse en un Enfermero de Prctica Avanzada (EPA). En general, el sujeto es un enfermero que ha realizado prcticas intensivas y ha desarrollado una experiencia clnica considerable antes de inscribirse en cursos de posgrado y prctica avanzada. Sin embargo, la transicin de enfermero a EPA puede resultar difcil, y aquellos que eligen ejercer este nuevo rol enfrentan muchos desafos. Adems, se advierte un cambio cognitivo significativo al pasar de enfermero experimentado a EPA sin experiencia. Este ajuste en la identidad profesional de un enfermero "experto" a un EPA "novato" puede potencialmente disminuir la autoconfianza, impedir el desarrollo del rol profesional e influir de manera negativa en la determinacin de los nuevos enfermeros de permanecer en la profesin durante su primer ao de prctica clnica 3 .
