Abstract
Introdução: A doença de Alzheimer é a forma mais comum de demência, sendo uma doença neurodegenerativa e progressiva, com grande impacto a nível humanístico e socioeconómico.Este trabalho estimou a carga e os custos da doença de Alzheimer nos idosos em Portugal Continental em 2018.Métodos: Utilizou-se como instrumento de medida da carga da doença os anos de vida ajustados pela incapacidade (DALY -disability adjusted life years), que corresponde à soma dos anos de vida perdidos por morte prematura (YLL -years of life lost) e anos de vida perdidos por incapacidade gerada pela morbilidade (YLD -years lived with disability).A estimativa dos custos foi realizada na ótica da prevalência, tendo-se estimado os custos diretos médicos e não-médicos associados à doença de Alzheimer.Resultados: Em 2018, estima-se que existiam em Portugal Continental 143 334 adultos com idade ≥ 65 anos com doença de Alzheimer.Em 2018, estimámos que tenham ocorrido 7538 óbitos por doença de Alzheimer que geraram a perda de 76 709 YLL e a perda de 45 754 YLD.No total, a carga associada à doença foi estimada em 122 463 DALY.O total estimado de custos médicos diretos atribuíveis à doença de Alzheimer para o sistema de saúde foi de aproximadamente 219 milhões de euros, repartidos por: 166 milhões em tratamento em ambulatório, 29 milhões em internamento hospitalar e 24 milhões em tratamento farmacológico.Os custos não-médicos diretos totalizaram cerca de 1,8 mil milhões de euros, repartidos por: 1,1 mil milhões relacionados com a valorização monetária do cuidado informal, 551 milhões com apoios sociais, 122 milhões com dispositivos de apoio, acessórios de cuidado e adaptações físicas do domicílio, e 40 milhões com transportes.O custo global estimado foi cerca de 2 mil milhões de euros em 2018.
