Abstract
Los abusos sexuales de menores por parte de clérigos y religiosos han desgarrado el corazón de la Iglesia y han ocasionado graves problemas al interior de la misma, generando así un ambiente de desconfianza y frustración. La investigación explica las formas en que la Iglesia Católica, desde sus inicios hasta el presente, se ha preparado para enfrentar este tipo de delitos. Igualmente se describe el comportamiento jurídico-canónico que actualmente se desarrolla sobre el tema a fin de prevenir e intervenir tan grave problema. A través de los métodos histórico y exegético, logra la investigación diagnosticar que la Iglesia no ha sido del todo indiferente frente al problema. Sin embargo, se reconoce que desde la década de losochenta, cuando comenzaron a salir a la luz pública los escándalos de pederastia en los Estados Unidos, se cometieron grandes errores al preferir las ayudas terapéuticas y consejos pastorales a cambio de la aplicación del Derecho Canónico y denunciar los delitos ante las autoridades civiles. Apartir de la nueva legislación canónica del 2001, la Iglesia ha comenzado un camino de renovación respecto al tema, renovación que necesita tiempo para su perfecta implementación al igual que la colaboración de todos los fieles Cristianos.
