Cet article se propose d'aborder la question de l'activité des architectes-experts et conseils à Bordeaux, au moment de la Révolution car les tâches effectuées – essentiellement administratives – sont l'occasion pour tous les architectes de la cité de travailler dans une époque de disette architecturale mais aussi de poursuivre des rapprochements professionnels stratégiques avec l'équipe municipale. Pour les autorités locales, il s'agit « d'entretenir » la génération d’architectes qu’elles ont participé à faire naître mais aussi de se « payer » des experts-conseils pour presque rien et cela parmi les figures majeures de la scène bordelaise. L’examen d’un projet précis retiendra notre attention - celui présenté en mai 1789 par l’ingénieur du roi Bandiery de Laval - car le mémoire de refus rédigé par la commission d’experts réunie pour donner un avis sur cette proposition démontre que les architectes qui y participent ne sont pas des experts neutres, mais des compétiteurs déclarés du pauvre Laval.
