Dans la perspective de conserver et valoriser la prairie naturelle humide des marais atlantiques, l’élevage allaitant d’animaux de race Maraîchine a été privilégiée par certains éleveurs. Les performances de croissance de 65 bœufs Maraîchins, comparés à des bœufs Charolais, sont analysées dans deux modes d’hivernage, le plein air intégral et la stabulation libre. Le plein air intégral ne pénalise pas les vitesses de croissance quelle que soit la race. La vitesse de croissance des bœufs Maraîchins est supérieure à celle des Charolais en période de finition, mais ne compense pas le retard accumulé antérieurement (100 g/j). Les animaux Maraîchins sont abattus à 42 mois, à un poids vif moyen de 767 kg, alors que les Charolais sont abattus à 40 mois et 858 kg. Les animaux Maraîchins semblent plus précoces que les Charolais, ce qui est un atout dans les milieux difficiles.
