Bien que la recherche sur le lien entre les drogues et la criminalité ne constitue pas une préoccupation majeure chez beaucoup de chercheurs québécois, les cinq dernières années ont vu un nombre croissant d'études sur ce thème. Ces études peuvent se regrouper en quatre axes : 1) les politiques criminelles ; 2) les études de prévalence ; 3) laI relation drogue-crime et 4) l'intervention et son impact. Les résultats de ces enquêtes ont apporté des pressions supplémentaires pour un traitement adéquat des personnesI toxicomanes éprouvant des problèmes avec la justice. Les intervenants des centres de réadaptation ont alors constaté qu'ils rencontraient un bon nombre de toxicomanes qui avaient déjà eu des démêlés avec la justice, ou qui en avaient au moment de leur traitement. Néanmoins, une grande proportion des personnes toxicomanes judiciarisées ne semblent pas encore rejointes par les services de réadaptation : ce sont elles qui présentent le profil bio-psycho-social le plus détérioré. De toute façon, la simple judiciarisation d'une personne ne dit rien sur ses traits de caractère (e.g. violent, menteur ouI fraudeur) ou sur sa psychopathologie (e.g. psychopathe, sociopathe). Vu la nature illicite de certaines drogues, le simple fait de consommer peut entraîner la criminalisation.I Le défi de la recherche consistera à mieux cerner les facteurs reliés à la persévérance auI traitement ou aux ingrédients thérapeutiques associés à l'impact désiré.
