Introduction par Eliane GubinPenser, est-ce répondre à des questions ?Ne serait-ce pas plutôt toujours reformuler les questions elles-mêmes, en déplacer les termes ?Françoise coLLin 1 En 1994-1995, Françoise Collin occupait la chaire Suzanne Tassier à l'Université libre de Bruxelles ; elle y présentait un cycle de conférences sur « L'Homme, le Citoyen et les femmes ».Le texte qui suit est la retranscription (inédite jusqu'ici) d'une partie de ce cours.Etre titulaire de la chaire Suzanne Tassier ne signifie pas seulement une reconnaissance scientifique, c'est aussi un acte militant.Créée en 1961, grâce à un legs de Suzanne Tassier (1898-1956), première enseignante d'histoire dans une université belge (1934), cette chaire est la première incursion institutionnelle du féminisme dans un monde académique, relativement frileux en matière d'égalité professionnelle entre les hommes (corps professoral) et les femmes (corps scientifique).Sa signification (et les volontés testamentaires de Suzanne Tassier) firent d'ailleurs le buzz lors de l'inauguration de la chaire, le 17 janvier 1963.John Gilissen, alors président de la Faculté de philosophie et lettres, s'interrogeait sur les convictions de Suzanne Tassier : « Etait-elle féministe ?Je crois qu'il faut répondre oui » 2 .Mais un oui tempéré, même par ses collègues « féministes » comme Claire Préaux : « Elle fut féministe, mais elle le fut avec mesure, avec sérénité » 3 .Il y aurait beaucoup à dire, plus d'un demi-siècle plus tard, sur ce jugement.L'on pourrait établir ici un parallèle avec Françoise Collin.Comme elle (en 1972), Suzanne Tassier (en 1938) « découvre » le féminisme lors d'un séjour aux Etats-Unis ; elle constate une autonomie des femmes et des acquis qui n'ont pas leur pendant en Europe.Le témoignage enthousiaste et vigoureux qu'elle 1 Parcours féministes.
