Abstract
L’étude de laboratoire des autoportraits présumés de Goya conservés dans les musées d’Agen, Castres et Bayonne permet de préciser leur attribution. Le tableau d’Agen, dont l’attribution et la datation ont été discutées, présente en radiographie des détails caractéristiques d’un autoportrait peint devant un miroir ; il a vraisemblablement été peint vers 1783 afin de préparer l’insertion du portrait du modèle dans la Prédication de saint Bernardin de Sienne de l’église San Francisco el Grande de Madrid. Le Portrait de l’artiste conservé au musée de Castres n’a pas les caractéristiques techniques d’un original de Goya ; il s’agit, selon l’auteur de ces lignes, d’une réplique non autographe réalisée dans l’entourage du maître. En revanche, l’étude de laboratoire et la restauration récente du tableau de Bayonne, souvent négligé, semblent indiquer qu’il s’agit d’une œuvre autographe préparant le portrait de l’artiste peint à l’arrière-plan de la Famille de Charles IV (Madrid, musée du Prado).
