Abstract
Le Cahier d’un retour au pays natal d’Aimé Césaire, texte fondamental de la littérature francophone, est un poème fluide, qui change au même rythme que son poète et au même rythme que le monde qui l’entoure. De plus, nous ne disposons ni d’un manuscrit de la version originale du poème ni d’une véritable version définitive, puisque la version de 1956 dite « définitive » n’est pas tout à fait la dernière version du texte. Cette fluidité est d’autant plus complexe que les nombreuses traductions du Cahier en multiplient les possibilités de lecture et d’interprétation, à cause du mouvement inhérent à tout acte de traduction qui introduit de la diversité dans le texte original, et en raison du fait que les traductions sont basées sur des « originaux » différents. Dans cette introduction, après une brève histoire de l’évolution génétique du poème, je soulignerai aussi le rôle fondamental joué par la traduction dans l’évolution du texte, ce qui nous permettra d’en continuer l’exploration et de contribuer à une lecture plurielle et multilingue de l’œuvre césairienne.
