Bwa pi wo di li wè loin, main graine pwomenain di li wè pi loin passel (The tallest tree says it sees far, but the wandering seed says it sees even farther), a Haitian proverb.The evening of October 19 bid farewell to a great spirit, that of Dr Jean-Claude Fouron (Fig).Jean-Claude the family man, Jean-Claude the physician, the teacher, the scientist.Jean-Claude the passionate advocate and the inspirational teacher.Dr Fouron was a pioneer in fetal cardiology in Qu ebec and across Canada.He attended on children and mothers of children with heart disease at CHU Sainte-Justine, University of Montreal, and was an inspirational leader for many within the medical scientific community for more than 50 years.Throughout his successful career, he has always maintained the ability to adapt to his audience, from medical students to seasoned specialists.He knew how to capture attention, sustain the interest of his audience, and convey his messages with clarity and passion.Similarly, with patients and their families, he knew how to simplify his medical explanations while getting emotionally connected to them.His empathy was such that he was admired by them.For Jean-Claude, teaching has always been a duty, a pleasure, and a privilege that he viewed as a social engagement between the tutor and the pupil.Above all, he was a careful listener and an avid student himself learning from the growing expertise of those he had personally nurtured, those he once called "mes chers enfants!"
