Clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes in acne necroticaDear Editor, Acne necrotica (AN), also known as necrotizing lymphocytic folliculitis, is a rare follicular disorder that presents with papules or pustules that progress to hemorrhagic crusts and varioliformis scarring. 1AN has rarely been described in the literature, but most often occurs on the scalp, face, and upper body. 1 Given its clinical presentation, the condition can often be mistaken for acne vulgaris; however, the diagnosis of AN can be made histologically with distinct perifollicular necrosis with lymphocytic infiltrates. 2Clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of acne vulgaris have been extensively described, yet little work has been done to do the same for AN.Thus, the goal of this article is to summarize clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes in AN.PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase were searched using the terms "Acne necrotica" or "Necrotizing lymphocytic folliculitis" according to PRISMA guidelines (Figure 1).Data extraction and analysis were completed by three authors (MG, NK, and AF) on all case reports in English, with any discrepancies settled by a fourth (HM) (Table 1).A total of 74 patients, across 19 studies, were summarized.Most of those affected were female (n = 51/74, 68.9%) with an
