Abstract
O transtorno por uso abusivo de álcool é um grave problema de saúde pública e no Brasil é apontada como a terceira condição psiquiátrica mais frequente nessa população, vindo depois da demência e da depressão. Além disso, o uso indiscrimidado de álcool causa prejuízos à saúde física e mental, e impacta na vida afetiva e social do indivíduo. Entre os idosos, o uso de álcool é um grave problema de saúde pública e no Brasil é apontada como a terceira condição psiquiátrica mais frequente nessa população, vindo depois da demência e da depressão. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma revisão de literatura a respeito do impacto comportamental e o prejuízo na saúde do idosos por uso abusivo de álcool. Após a avaliação individual de cada artigo, analisando o título e o resumo do estudo e aplicando os critérios de inclusão e exclusão, foram selecionados 23 artigos para elaboração da presente revisão de literatura. Com o desenvolvimento deste estudo foi possível somar à literatura pertinente a temática, uma visão mais ampliada sobre a saúde do idoso, identificando situações de vulnerabilidade e risco junto com o envelhecimento, como é o caso do alcoolismo.
