Abstract
À l’exception des ouvrages majeurs de C. Guarneri et S. Kesten, la réalité matérielle des expériences fouriéristes, utopies concrètes américaines du xix e siècle, est relativement mal connue. À partir du cas d’Alphadelphia, établie à Kalamazoo (Michigan) de 1844 à 1848, nous cherchons à comprendre comment ce phalanstère rural a tenté de gérer les différentes disputes propres à la vie communautaire. Plus précisément, nous mettons en évidence les choix réalisés en matière de patrimoine et de rémunération, ainsi que celles relatives à l’organisation, l’admission et à la sortie de la communauté. En conclusion, ces choix de gestion des insatisfactions des membres soulignent la nécessité pour ces communautés intentionnelles de combiner de manière fine expression des membres, loyauté à l’organisation et réussite économique.
