Con questa sua ultima pubblicazione di Tra 'Napoli' e 'New York'.Le macchiette italo-americane di Eduardo Migliaccio, Hermann W. Haller mette in rilievo l'importanza dei testi comici teatrali (macchiette) di Eduardo Migliaccio , sotto tre aspetti: l'aspetto dell'immigrazione italiana nel Nord America nei primi tre decenni del secolo scorso; l'aspetto linguistico della lingua napoletana-italiana-angloamericana; e l'aspetto letterario di una comicità esilarante.Vediamo per esempio le prime tre terzine della macchietta La donna moderna:Aggio fatto quistione n'ata vota con mio marito... ma... chev'aggia di?! Se quello è un animale!Un idiota!Voleva ch'io nun venisse a stu partì [festa] Io non sono una schiava!Che birbante!È un bruto, è un ignorante.Eccoci qua: Se fumo, bevo gioco ed ho un amante lui non capisce, c'accussì si fa? (118).C'è qui in chiave comico-satirica il tema dell'emancipazione storica della donna emigrata in America, che da donna "schiava" diventa "donna moderna" e libera.Lo stesso tema ricorre nell'altra macchietta Cunailando, dove la donna viene pizzicata nel sedere e si lamenta con l'amico, che le risponde: "E lassele fà ... Qua accusì se fa." (115).L'emancipazione e libertà della donna si accompagna al materialismo, come ne L'allegra sartina: L'amore è bello si nce stanno 'e pezze, [i soldi] Nu disperato [squattrinato] che t' 'o spuse a ffà: Pe quattre baci, pizzeche e carezze, te miette 'o bosso [capo] ca hadda cumanna.(76).
