Di era modern ini, banyak orang yang hanya memikirkan bagaimana meningkatkan aspek kognitif dan psikomotor sebagai hasil dari proses pendidikan anaknya. Mereka biasanya melakukan berbagaicara untuk meningkatkan aspek tersebut namun terkadang mereka melupakan (sikap) afektif anakanaknya. Aspek afektif, yang disebut juga character building, dapat diartikan sebagai rangkaiankegiatan terencana yang dilakukan oleh orang dewasa kepada peserta didik; dengan tujuan agarpeserta didik memiliki pengetahuan dan pemahaman serta mampu menerapkan nilai-nilai kehidupanseperti kebaikan, kebenaran dan keikhlasan sebagai kebiasaan sehari-hari. Sebagaimana suku lainnya,masyarakat Dayak di Kalimantan Tengah juga memiliki cara dan alat yang berfungsi dalam pembentukan karakter, salah satunya melalui kesenian tradisional bernama “Karungut”. Karungutadalah sejenis seni lisan yang dinyanyikan dengan irama tertentu dan diiringi alat musik tradisionalbernama “Kecapi”. Ini fungsi Karungut dalam pembentukan karakter masyarakat Dayak diKalimantan Tengah.
