Abstract
Essa pesquisa discute o seguinte questionamento: quanto do autoritarismo estrutural brasileiro seria uma herança da Ditadura Militar e quanto seria um fenômeno social? Para aprofundar-se em tal discussão, esse trabalho vale-se da análise de dois casos concretos: o massacre do Carandiru e o júri do caso do assassinato de Ângela Diniz em 1979. A análise dos objetos do estudo passa por quatro eixos principais: abordagem histórica, jurídica, sociológica e cultural. A partir dessa investigação, percebe-se que o autoritarismo brasileiro tem um forte substrato no processo de redemocratização incompleto que culminou com a permanência de elementos da Ditadura Militar nas “novas” instituições. Entretanto, esse fenômeno é mais profundo, na medida em que não parte somente do aparelho de Estado, mas da própria sociedade, especialmente da classe média, que atua como guardiã da ideologia autoritária.
