INTRODUÇÃO: Cattleya purpurata (Lindl.& Paxton) van den Berg é uma orquídea endêmica da Mata Atlântica, sofrendo assim grande ameaça de extinção em decorrência da perda de seus hábitats e da sua exploração para fins ornamentais.Assim, é classificada como Em Perigo no estado do Rio Grande do Sul.As orquídeas obrigatoriamente estabelecem simbiose com fungos micorrízicos para sua germinação na natureza.Existem registros na literatura de orquídeas que são propagadas in vitro em simbiose com fungos micorrízicos isolados de espécies distintas da mesma família.OBJETIVO: O intuito deste estudo é analisar a germinação simbiótica e o desenvolvimento inicial in vitro de Cattleya purpurata infectada com Tulasnella amonilioides (P.R.M. Almeida, N. Van den Berg & Góes-Neto) S. Fujimori, J.P. Abe, I. Okane & Y. Yamaoka, micorriza isolada previamente de raízes de Cattleya intermedia Graham, espécie simpátrica de C. purpurata.METODOLOGIA: Sementes de C. purpurata removidas de frutos maduros e superficialmente estéreis (NaClO a 2% -10 min) foram imersas em água destilada esterilizada e pipetadas em placas de Petri sobre meio OMA (4 g L -1 de aveia, 7,5 g L -1 de ágar, água destilada, pH ajustado em 5,6).O meio OMA de cada placa foi inoculado
