Apparu en 1978, le concept de validité sociale est peu utilisé, en dehors des publications scientifiques, malgré les intérêts qu’il présente. Pourtant celui-ci est particulièrement utile, puisqu’il s’agit d’introduire, en plus des données objectives, des données subjectives lors de l’évaluation des plans d’intervention. Ce concept qui accorde toute son importance à l’avis de la société sur l’adéquation des objectifs, l’acceptabilité des méthodes, et l’importance des résultats des plans d’intervention, est présenté ici. Après avoir décrit le contexte d’apparition du concept, nous présentons ce que la validité sociale mesure et auprès de quels publics, ainsi que ses intérêts et les difficultés rencontrées lors de son utilisation. Cet article de type conceptuel et méthodologique est illustré par des publications concernant des interventions auprès d’enfants et d’adolescents avec un trouble envahissant du développement.
