Au Canada, les années soixante ont été une période de changement dynamique provoqué en partie par une interaction créative entre de nombreuses personnes, organisations et institutions publiques.Le présent ouvrage et l'exposition qu'il documente, Design à gogo, examinent à nouveau l'esprit d'innovation et de collaboration qui a marqué cette décennie exceptionnelle.En 2002, le Musée canadien des civilisations s'est joint à un partenariat pluriinstitutionnel afin de jeter un regard neuf sur les années soixante.Le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, le Centre canadien d'architecture, le Musée McCord, le Musée des beaux-arts du Canada et le Musée canadien de la photographie contemporaine se sont joints à nous pour présenter une série d'événements sur cette passionnante décennie.L'ampleur de cette coopération autour d'un thème culturel particulier est sans précédent.Elle fait écho à l'esprit des années soixante et pourrait devenir un modèle de collaboration culturelle pour l'avenir.Lorsque le Musée canadien des civilisations a entrepris les pourparlers avec Design Exchange de Toronto au sujet de son projet d'exposition sur le design et les métiers d'art canadiens, le personnel de Design Exchange, notamment Elise Hodson, s'est montré enthousiaste.Fabriqué au Canada : Métiers d'art et design dans les années soixante est le résultat de notre edort collégial.Des rédacteurs des quatre coins du pays, chacun doté de sa propre expertise, ont travaillé de concert avec Alan C. Elder, du Musée, et avec le personnel de Design Exchange pour préciser les thèmes de l'exposition.Le Musée a aussi fourni des photographies de publication prises par Harry Foster, directeur de la section photographie, ainsi qu'une aide à la production.
