Abstract

Secon d E dit ion χət' ə kwθə siyal ' əxwe ə et … Our Elders Said … Jordan Wilson c'əsna əm is not a midden; it's our village. And when you talk about a village, it changes how you look at it and how you connect to it.taχwtəna:t (Wendy Grant-John), 2014 1c'əsna əm has been named many things by settlers: the Eburne Midden, the Great Fraser Midden, the Marpole Midden, and its archaeological site name, DhRs-1.Located in the Vancouver neighbourhood now known as Marpole, c'əsna əm is well known to the Musqueam and a part of our unceded traditional territory. To our community, it has always been c'əsna əm, and we have always known it as a place of our ancestors. In These Mysterious People, Susan Roy explores c'əsna əm's complex colonial history and how it came to be a site of international importance and attention. The late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries witnessed the destructive removal of so-called artefacts and ancestral remains -our ancestors -for study and display.Roy's work connects these unsanctioned removals and misinterpretations to the alienation of Musqueam from our former village and burial sites, and thus from our wider territory and history. The book challenges key ideas about Vancouver and its heritage that have shaped and continue to shape the ways settlers see themselves and the ways they view their Musqueam hosts.Since These Mysterious People was first published in 2010, c'əsna əm has once again been the focus of public attention. In January 2012, against Musqueam wishes, an archaeological impact assessment, undertaken to pave the way for a new condominium development, disturbed our ancestral burials, including infant burials. When Musqueam learned of these burials being unearthed, many community members gathered at the site and held vigil for over 200 days.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
