Introdução: A poliomielite, uma doença imunoprevenível, está incluída no calendário vacinal nacional onde são vacinadas de acordo com a rotina vacinal que acontece em 5 doses, sendo 3 da VIP e 2 da VOP, pois é a única forma de prevenir o poliovírus, que é capaz de gerar sintomas graves como PFA e até mesmo a morte em crianças e em adultos. Objetivo geral: Traçar o contexto histórico e evolutivo da vacinação da poliomielite no Brasil. Método: Revisão narrativa, construído por meio de artigos, boletim DataSUS e SI-PNI, registros do SINAN e manuais encontrados nos sites de instituições governamentais para interpretação de análises críticas pessoais ou do autor. Resultado/discussão: Linha temporal do contexto histórico e evolutivo da vacinação da poliomielite entre os anos de 1917 a 2022 e a importância da enfermagem durante o processo. Conclusão: Diante do exposto, é possível reforçar que a vacinação é de suma importância para controle e erradicação de doenças imunopreviníveis, propiciando saúde para toda a população brasileira. Com o auxílio da enfermagem, esses feitos foram possíveis graças à habilidade de gerenciar, planejar, investigar e orientar a população sobre a importância da adesão à vacinação.
