Abstract
L’article donne, dans un premier temps, un aperçu de l’évolution des politiques éducatives visant la promotion du vivre ensemble au Canada depuis une dizaine d’années étant donné la grande diversité qui marque les approches des différentes provinces dans un système fédéral où l’éducation est de leur ressort exclusif. On y décrit, dans un second temps, un cas type du courant de plus en plus dominant au Canada, celui de l’équité, de la diversité et de l’inclusion (EDI) en analysant le Plan d’action pour l’équité en matière d’éducation de l’Ontario, la province canadienne la plus peuplée et aussi celle qui reçoit la majorité des immigrants. L’article présente, en troisième partie, une analyse des tensions conceptuelles et normatives qu’on peut y trouver, comme dans d’autres approches en EDI dans le contexte canadien, en analysant tout particulièrement six grands enjeux. L’auteur propose en conclusion une réflexion sur les avenues à privilégier pour maximiser l’apport du système d’éducation au développement d’une société équitable et inclusive, tout en minimisant certains des effets pervers identifiés.
