L’anticipation, formule aujourd’hui indissociable de la science-fiction, n’a en fait pu être pensée, puis maîtrisée, que lorsqu’un certain nombre de conditions conceptuelles et discursives ont été réunies : il aura fallu, d’abord que l’on conçoive l’Histoire comme une transformation non triviale de l’état du monde, ensuite qu’écrivains et lecteurs surmontent les difficultés inhérentes à la mise en place d’un cadre de référence détaché du présent.Un coup de sonde dans la science-fiction des premiers temps fait apparaître des formules qui, chacune à sa manière, domestiquent ce territoire narratif et fictionnel inédit : des récits encore ancrés dans le présent, mais qui en font le tremplin vers une forme ou une autre d’altérité, endogène ou exogène.Ce sont ces formules que l’on examine ici à partir de romans de Robida (Le Vingtième siècle), Rosny Aîné (La Force mystérieuse, Les Navigateurs de l’infini), Renard (Le Péril bleu, Le Docteur Lerne) et Messac (La Cité des asphyxiés).
