Traduire est une pratique du seuil, traduire est une pensée du seuil. La position paratraductionnelle vient décliner ce double postulat à l’encontre des théories de la traduction comme passage. Sans résistance, le passage entre les deux langues-cultures équivaut à un simple transcodage, la transfusion sémantique d’un corps culturel à un autre, une opération que pourrait prendre en charge une machine et qui mériterait à peine le nom de traduction. Traduire, en d’autres termes, commence lorsqu’on touche à de l’intraduisible, plus exactement lorsqu’on reste sur le seuil du traduisible. La particule du traduire n’est pas en (traduit en japonais, traduit en français, traduit en …) mais entre , entre les deux langues, les deux textes, les deux cultures, les deux historicités. Considérer le seuil comme lieu du traduire permet cet accueil bilatéral. Toute langue étant pour une autre une langue étrangère, les deux langues en présence en suscitent une troisième, nouvelle pour chaque traduction et au seuil de laquelle existent les deux premières.
