INTRODUÇÃO:A avaliação da obesidade é um importante precursor para mensurar os riscos de mortalidade por complicações cardiovasculares e limitações físico-funcionais. OBJETIVO: identificar na literatura os métodos de avaliação funcional para obesos relacionados a força muscular, capacidade cardiorrespiratórias, equilíbrio e qualidade de vida e do sono. MÉTODO: Revisão integrativa, dos últimos cinco anos, contemplando estudos de coorte e transversal, obesos graus I a III, indexada nas bases PubMed e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde. A busca foi realizada com a combinação dos seguintes descritores: cardiorespiratory fitness, postural balance, muscle strength, quality of life, dyssomnias. Dois revisores independentes analisaram a qualidade metodológica dos estudos por Newcastle-Ottawa Scale e Prisma. RESULTADOS/DISCUSSÃO: Sete estudos foram inclusos. Os testes de degrau de dois minutos, incremental na esteira e caminhada de seis minutos avaliam a capacidade cardiorrespiratória. Para avaliação do equilíbrio adotou plataformas de forças, testes de limite de estabilidade e timed up and go. E, para força muscular a dinamometria e os testes de sentar e levantar cinco vezes e uma repetição máxima. Os testes para obesos, independente do grau da obesidade, não diferem daqueles aplicados aos eutróficos. CONCLUSÃO: Apresenta-se nesta revisão um guia rápido de prática clínica com testes funcionais eficazes para obesos.
