Le corpus étudié ici, une série d’articles de Télérama publiés en ligne pendant le premier confinement dû à la pandémie de Covid-19 sous le titre Journal de confinement (23 mars–10 avril 2020), nous permet de considérer les formes contemporaines du journal d’écrivain en temps de crise. Nous nous concentrons sur les stratégies d’écriture et les topiques discursives communes à ce genre d’écriture intime : le pathos de la tristesse ; le savoir des auteurs et leur statut d’observateurs ; le contenu discursif reposant sur l’abondance des retours en arrière et le pullulement des références culturelles ; le topos du spectacle du quotidien ; le nouveau rapport ici-ailleurs et surtout le rapport temporalité-spatialité avec, à notre avis, une subordination de la temporalité (qui ne fait que rendre possible l’écriture, puisqu’on a tout le temps pour écrire) à une spatialité qui devient le sujet de l’écriture (c’est sur l’espace intime que se concentrent essentiellement les diaristes). Nous montrons que le journal personnel en temps de crise dépasse la condition initiale de production de l’écriture intime, cette volonté d’isolement des écrivains « rétractiles ». Les diaristes de notre corpus témoignent, tout au contraire, d’une volonté d’expansion de leur perspective et d’une perception aiguë et consciente de l’espace environnant.
