EFEITOS ADVERSOS DOS QUIMIOTERÁPICOS NA CAVIDADE ORAL

Abstract
Introdução: O câncer é um grupo de doenças que, em comum, possuem o desenvolvimento atípico das células; é a segunda principal causa de mortes no mundo. Dentre os recursos terapêuticos, os quimioterápicos se destacam, porém, eles atuam concomitantemente tanto em células neoplásicas como nas saudáveis. Objetivo: descrever os principais efeitos adversos causados pelos quimioterápicos na cavidade oral e demonstrar a atuação do Cirurgião-Dentista para prevenção e tratamento destas alterações bucais. Materiais e Métodos: revisão bibliográfica, utilizando bases de dados e artigos provenientes das bibliotecas virtuais, Scielo, PubMed e Google Acadêmico, bem como livros de referência na área do presente estudo. Discussão e Conclusão: As alterações bucais mais comuns são a mucosite, xerostomia, infecções fúngicas, infecções herpéticas, a neurotoxicidade, trombocitopenia, disgeusia e disfagia. O cirurgião-dentista irá intervir em prol da redução das complicações causadas pelos quimioterápicos, Mesmo o Cirurgião-Dentista não sendo o principal responsável pelo tratamento, ele é de suma importância no diagnóstico e tratamento dos sintomas orais.
