Telah terjadi tanah longsor di dusun Sumbernanas Kecamatan Gedangan Kabupaten Malang. Peristiwa menyebabkan jalan amblas sepanjang 50 m pada ruas jalan Gedangan–Gondanglegi sedalam 3 m. Berbagai usaha telah dilakukan pengurugan pada lokasi tersebut, tetapi tidak menghasilkan kondisi yang diharapkan. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis penyebab jalan amblas dan menentukan metode penanganannya. Metode penelitian meliputi observasi lapangan, studi literatur geologi kawasan, pengukuran topografi, penyelidikan tanah in-situ, pengolahan data dan analisis, dan desain penanganan. Parameter desain ditentukan secara perhitungan-balik analisis kestablian lereng pada saat runtuh. Hasil analisis mengindikasikan bahwa jalan amblas disebabkan oleh kombinasi terikisnya bantaran alur sungai dan pelunakan tanah akibat dari infiltrasi aliran air bawah tanah. Desain penanganan yang diusulkan adalah pemasangan konstruksi gabion sebagai dinding penahan tanah. Perhitungan struktur menunjukan konstruksi yang diusulkan memberikan faktor keamanan FK > 1,5 untuk jangka pendek dan FK >1,1 pada saat gempa.
