Abstract
Les études vidéoludiques ont principalement abordé le concept d’éthique ou de morale avec celui d’engagement moral, qui a émergé en réponse aux exemples de jeux caractérisés par des systèmes de moralité manichéenne. Devant ces exemples qui poussent la morale jusqu’à la caricature, le champ d’études s’est interrogé sur la manière pour un jeu vidéo d’offrir un discours signifiant en la matière. Les débats universitaires se sont toutefois gardés de « s’engager » dans une clarification de leur appareillage conceptuel, notamment en montrant une grande timidité à l’égard des éthiques normatives préexistantes, pourtant instrumentales pour renseigner nos recommandations à propos de ce qu’est un « bon » jeu. Afin de pallier cette lacune, nous allons revisiter l’engagement moral à la lumière de l’éthique de la vertu, qui introduit des questions jusqu’ici négligées dans le champ d’études par rapport au développement des personnes qui jouent, leurs émotions et leur épanouissement. Cette démarche mettra en lumière les insuffisances du concept d’engagement moral et l’intérêt de le remplacer par celui d’engagement au bien.
