Abstract

La alexitimia es un tema de preocupación, especialmente en los jóvenes universitarios, quienes pueden llegar a padecer este trastorno que conlleva diversas afecciones emocionales, sociales e incluso familiares debido a la escasa expresión de sus sentimientos y emociones. El interés por entender la importancia de la detección temprana de este trastorno ha llevado a desarrollar el presente estudio que tuvo como objetivo conocer si existe alexitimia presente en estudiantes de cuarto ciclo de la Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad de Cuenca. Para la realización de este estudio se utilizó un enfoque cuantitativo con la aplicación del instrumento Toronto Alexthymia Scale aplicado a 56 personas, tanto a mujeres (35 participantes) como a hombres (21 participantes). A partir de las respuestas se procedió a realizar el análisis de datos de acuerdo a las dimensiones del instrumento aplicado, lo cual permitió evidenciar que, los estudiantes que fueron parte del muestreo presentaron índices altos de alexitimia, siendo el factor con mayor predisposición el pensamiento orientado a lo externo. Por último, se evidenció que quienes presentaron mayor incidencia fueron los hombres en comparación con las mujeres.
