Abstract
La longue histoire des universités et de ses transformations au cours des siècles nous aide à cerner la spécificité du contexte actuel, dont la crise de l'Université Laurentienne n'est que l'expression locale.Dans cet esprit, nous allons d'abord rappeler brièvement les grandes étapes de la transformation des universités, de leur création au début du 12 e siècle jusqu'à la situation actuelle.Il est en effet utile de rappeler que les universités ont été régulièrement critiquées, réformées et parfois même abolies.Elles ont tout de même résisté en tant qu'institutions de haut savoir à toutes les guerres, épidémies, changements de régime politique et autres calamités qui ont marqué son histoire depuis 800 ans.Mais derrière la stabilité du vocable « université », qui s'est vite imposé, se cachent de nombreuses transformations survenues en réponse aux besoins nouveaux qui ont émergé au fil des siècles, dans tous les pays du monde dans lesquels cette institution, issue de l'Occident chrétien, s'est implantée.Dans une perspective de longue durée, on peut, à mon
