Abstract

O presente texto tem como objetivo discutir a educação em tempo integral implantada nos Centros Integrados de Educação Pública (CIEPS) no Rio de Janeiro, organizados em dois mandatos de Leonel Brizola entre os anos 1980 e 1990 à frente do governo fluminense. Ao longo do artigo retomamos o que foram estes centros configurados como escola pública, laica, gratuita e de qualidade para todos e todas. Destaca-se o pensamento educacional de Darcy Ribeiro (1995; 1986; 1984; sd.) e a influência de Anísio Teixeira (2007) no pensamento darciniano. Atentos ao ingresso na terceira década do século XXI, a partir de rigorosa revisão bibliográfica, buscamos dialogar com as questões complexas da atual educação brasileira em seus aspectos históricos, políticos, econômicos e sociais. Momento em que o ensino, considerando os interesses neoliberais, passa por profundas transformações em conteúdo e forma (LAVAL, 2019; 2019a). Como resultado observamos que o projeto dos CIEPS torna-se importante referência no debate sobre a educação popular integral de tempo igualmente integral, em uma sociedade que se pretenda democrática. Visando melhor situar o leitor as seções do artigo foram divididas em: Introdução; O impacto neoliberal em nossas relações sociais; Os CIEPS e o intuito democrático pela educação; Considerações finais.
