Multiculturalisme canadien vs. interculturalisme québécois : les défis pour l'immigration et la nouvelle francophonie au Québec. Comment les sociétés canadienne et québécoise se positionnent-elles face à la diversité culturelle ? Quelles stratégies poursuivent-elles afin de créer un cadre et des structures favorisant la cohabitation entre personnes de culture et de langue différentes ? Sur le plan fédéral, le Canada poursuit la politique du multiculturalisme pratiquée depuis 1971 et formulée en tant que loi en 1988. Au Québec, elle se heurte à une large opposition, dans la mesure où elle apparaît comme une sorte de machine de guerre dirigée contre le principe de dualité, à savoir, la politique du biculturalisme et du bilinguisme. La stratégie proposée par le Québec se base sur le principe d’interculturalité. Jusqu'à aujourd’hui, ce contre-projet au multiculturalisme canadien reste par contre relativement flou et fait l’objet de nombreuses controverses politiques entre les partis politiques. L’article suivant analyse les mesures que prend l’administration étatique en ce qui concerne le soutien linguistique des immigrants et met en évidence des rapports contradictoires existant entre la francisation d’une part et l’interculturalité d’autre part.
