PDF | O aço ferramenta para trabalho a quente H13 é muito utilizado na fabricação de moldes e matrizes, em virtude de manter suas propriedades mecânicas em alta temperatura. Tradicionalmente, tais propriedades são obtidas por meio de tratamentos térmicos de têmpera e revenimento, em virtude das mudanças microestruturais que causam em tal aço. O objetivo deste trabalho foi o de avaliar o comportamento do aço H13 quando submetido a dois meios distintos, água e ar, de resfriamento no tratamento térmico de têmpera, avaliando a microdureza Vickers e as características microestruturais, por meio de microscopia óptica e eletrônica de varredura. Verificou-se que a têmpera em água causou um incremento da microdureza consideravelmente superior ao obtido com a têmpera ao ar, bem como observou-se o decréscimo significativo da microdureza no progresso do revenimento (1º e 2º) pós têmpera em água, conforme esperado. Por outro lado, a ocorrência do fenômeno de endurecimento secundário foi notada no primeiro revenimento da amostra temperada ao ar, com significativa precipitação de carbonetos secundários nos contornos e interior dos grãos, assim como incremento pouco significativo na dureza no segundo revenimento. Assim, confirmou-se que o meio de resfriamento mais severo é de fato mais apto a incrementar a dureza do material e que é possível que o aumento de dureza ocorra não apenas na têmpera, mas também no revenimento, dependendo da rota de tratamento térmico adotada.
