Louis Hamelin est revenu sur la crise d’Octobre 1970 (prise d’otage, état de guerre) au Québec dans La Constellation du Lynx (2010) et a expliqué ses prises de position dans l’essai Fabrications (2014). Pour cerner l’intérêt d’Hamelin dans le cadre des recherches sur l’imaginaire du complot, deux points sont essentiels : le contrat de lecture qu’implique l’alternarration fictionnelle et l’ethos ambivalent qui découle des différentes prises de position de Hamelin, aussi bien dans le roman qu’en dehors de celui-ci. Le récit comporte des effets de réel bien identifiables (personnages, ville, action) qui permettent de le lire comme un roman à clé plus ou moins voilé qui revient sur les événements d’Octobre 1970. En outre, le personnage principal Sam Nihilo étant un journaliste d’investigation, le dispositif narratif établit un pont vers une enquête journalistique réelle. Mais le contrat de lecture se complexifie par des éléments qui réfèrent explicitement à la fiction, telles les relations intertextuelles avec la littérature et le palimpseste temporel non chronologique. La question est de savoir si ce mélange de contrat de lecture référentiel et fictionnel est problématique. Si certains estiment qu’il invalide les prises de positions historiques de Hamelin et qualifient son roman d’élucubrations, force est de constater que la combinaison du discours fictionnel et du discours journalistique/historiographique interpelle le lecteur et le pousse à questionner les a priori qui orientent sa lecture.
