Abstract

The expression of NAD+-dependent deacetylase Sirtuin 2 (SIRT2) is up-regulated during development of central nervous system (CNS). Sirt2 mRNA expression peaks at P21 which coincides with the peak of active myelination, while protein expression remains high throughout adulthood. SIRT2 has been shown to promote oligodendrocyte differentiation; however, the molecular function of SIRT2 in neural development and aging remains speculative. Here, we characterized myelination in Sirt2-/- mice (B6.129-Sirt2tm1.1Fwa/J) compared to C57BL/6J background strain by transmission electron microscopy.
