Abstract
Kota Batam yang diawali dengan suatu Kawasan kecil yang dikenal dengan Jodoh pada tahun 1965 merupakan sebuah daerah permukiman nelayan tradisional. Dan saat ini telah menjadi pusat perdagangan tersibuk dan teramai di Kota Batam pada saat ini (2023). Perkembangan dan pertumbuhan kota Batam secara morfologi juga mengalami perubahan yang sangat signifikan. Kajian ini bertujuan atau mentikberatkan pada faktor faktor apa yang melatarbelakangi morfologi kota Batam yang merupakan bagian dari sejarah kota. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif, yaitu dengan cara mengumpulkan informasi yang relevan dan dengan melakukan tinjauan Pustaka. Dari hasil yang pembahasan didapat, faktor faktor yang melatarbelakangi perkembangan morfologi kota batam adalah beberapa faktor yang sangat signifikan yaitu , dijadikannya Batam oleh pemerintah pusat sebagai Daerah Industri kota Batam, terjadinya 2 kali kebakaran hebat yang terjadi di Kawasan permukiman Jodoh, dan beberapa peraturan dari otorita Batam tentang penyebaran dan pemerataan penduduk di Kota Batam.
