This was the beginning of a dream global Chinese food project that I very quickly shelved thereafter. What I did not know when I started my album was that this task had already been done years before by filmmaker, director, writer, and activist Cheuk Kwan. In the early 2000s, Kwan embarked on a four-year, five-continent odyssey visiting and documenting the stories of Chinese restaurants and communities in more than fifteen cities around the world. Bringing us to places ranging from the frigid, small town of Outlook in Saskatchewan, Canada, to arctic Tromsø, Norway, to vibrant Saint Julien, Mauritius, and a transitioning Cape Town, South Africa, Have You Eaten Yet? is a travelogue-memoir of this incredible journey.
