Abstract
La rénovation du site historique de la Bibliothèque nationale de France, le site Richelieu, de 2007 à 2022 s'est accompagnée d'une réflexion sur l'accueil d'un public plus large, tout en améliorant les services aux chercheurs. La salle Ovale, chef d'œuvre architectural qui n'a rien à envier à la salle Labrouste sur le même site, fut un temps salle des périodiques puis les modalités de communication des documents imprimés de la BnF ayant changé depuis 1998, la salle Ovale fut occupée pour partie par la bibliothèque de l'INHA avant qu'elle ne s'installe en salle Labrouste. Il fallait trouver une nouvelle stratégie pour cette salle Ovale afin de valoriser à la fois sa splendeur architecturale et utiliser son format de salle de lecture. Il a donc été décidé d'en faire une salle de lecture gratuite mais une salle de lecture que l'on peut aussi visiter pour comprendre ce qu'est la BnF. Visiteurs et lecteurs studieux se côtoient donc dans un mélange inédit à la BnF pour lequel les bibliothécaires se sont appliqués à définir une politique documentaire et des services originaux.
