La Bretagne touristique, publication mensuelle lancée le 15 avril 1922, devenue Bretagne en 1929, est la création d’un homme Octave-Louis Aubert, journaliste-éditeur installé à SaintBrieuc (Côtes-du-Nord, Bretagne). Par sa revue illustrée d’une riche iconographie dans laquelle la photographie occupe une grande place et au régionalisme revendiqué, Aubert veut promouvoir la Bretagne dans tous les domaines — économiques et touristiques bien sûr, mais surtout littéraires et artistiques —, en défendant les traditions bretonnes tout en associant modernisation et modernité. Des écrivains connus appuient cette initiative. Les reportages photographiques et textuels dressent le portrait d’une région à la forte identité régionale qui s’efforce de préserver sa langue celtique, le breton, ses coutumes et ses traditions en valorisant son patrimoine et son passé, mais qui aspire aussi à se moderniser. En même temps, surtout dans les années 1930, la revue fait connaître les jeunes créateurs bretons (écrivains, poètes, peintres, sculpteurs, graveurs, musiciens) en publiant leurs écrits ou en reproduisant leurs oeuvres. Le dépouillement des 173 numéros parus durant l’entre-deux-guerres montre que La Bretagne touristique forge des représentations du « pays breton », cette « petite patrie » qui veut préserver son identité régionale dans le cadre de la « grande patrie » française, après les sacrifices de la Première Guerre mondiale.
