Abstract
Objective: The primary aim was to assess the lower limb kinematics of Chinese men during everyday activities, with the end goal of enhancing joint prosthetic designs to better cater to patients requiring joint replacements.This research further intended to provide nursing professionals with insights into the movement capabilities of patients, enabling more tailored post-operative care and rehabilitation programmes.Methods: Eighty-eight healthy participants, comprising 43 young and 45 older males, were enlisted.Each was tasked with executing a squatting motion.During this, three-dimensional (3D) kinematic data were captured.Subsequent calculations yielded mean 3D angles for the hip, knee, and ankle joints for both age groups.Statistical significance was determined using independent t-tests, while a simple linear regression analysis gauged the correlation between joint range of motion and age.Results: Differences were observed between elderly and youthful males' knees in both sagittal and transverse planes.Specific joint angle measurements showcased variations between the age groups, with the knee joint particularly highlighting a negative correlation between range of motion and age.The hip and ankle joints, conversely, did not demonstrate significant correlations. Conclusion:The range of motion observed during the squatting trial surpassed previously reported post-joint replacement maximums.These findings offer a foundational understanding for the development and standardization of prosthetics, exoskeletons and rehabilitative devices suitable for the national populace's lower limbs.From a nursing perspective, this knowledge enhances the care quality provided to patients post joint replacement, emphasizing the importance of personalized rehabilitation and care plans tailored to individual movement capabilities.
