Abstract
A Doença Pulmonar Obstrutiva Crônica (DPOC) é uma condição respiratória caracterizada por uma limitação irreversível das vias aéreas a longo prazo, manifestando-se com sintomas persistentes como dispneia, tosse crônica e produção de muco. Sua prevalência e gravidade aumentam com a idade, tornando-se a terceira principal causa de morte em todo o mundo. O tabagismo é o principal fator de risco, mas fatores genéticos, exposição à poluição e infecções também desempenham papeis importantes. A DPOC é multifacetada, manifestando-se em diferentes fenótipos, incluindo enfisema, bronquite crônica e remodelação das vias aéreas. A fisiopatologia envolve uma obstrução permanente das vias aéreas devido à exposição prolongada a substâncias nocivas, como a fumaça do cigarro. As exacerbações agudas são desencadeadas principalmente por infecções virais, resultando em inflamação aguda das vias aéreas e piora dos sintomas, levando a complicações graves e redução da qualidade de vida. O diagnóstico da DPOC é baseado em critérios clínicos, exames de imagem e espirometria. O tratamento visa aliviar os sintomas e reduzir as exacerbações, utilizando broncodilatadores, corticosteroides inalatórios e, em casos graves, terapia tripla. Antibióticos macrolídeos profiláticos podem ser usados para reduzir o risco de exacerbações, embora seu uso a longo prazo seja controverso devido ao risco de resistência bacteriana.
