Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Vice-Chancellor Visiting Professor Lee Chair in Chinese Thought and Culture The seven main chapters of this book were each originally published elsewhere as journal articles or book chapters. The provenance of the essays is as follows. The original version of Chapter 2 was presented in May 2008 at the University of Hong Kong at Dào, Mind, and Language, a conference in honour of Chad Hansen on the occasion of his retirement. It was published as ‘Scepticism and Value in the Zhuangzi’, International Philosophical Quarterly 49.4 (2009): 439–57. The chapter is dedicated to Chad Hansen in gratitude for his advice, instruction, and inspiration. An earlier version of Chapter 3 was presented at a conference entitled Happiness East and West, organized by Timothy O’Leary at the University of Hong Kong in December 2009. It was later published as ‘Wandering the Way: A Eudaimonistic Approach to the Zhuangzi’, Dao: A Journal of Comparative Philosophy 13.4 (2014b): 541–65. Chapter 4 was originally written for a conference on the Philosophical Roots of Korean Emotion at Chonnam University in Gwangju, South Korea, coordinated by Yonghwan Chung in August 2010. It appeared as ‘Emotion and Agency in the Zhuangzi’, Asian Philosophy 21.1 (2011): 97–121.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
