Les interventions écologiques instantanées visant à promouvoir et à améliorer en temps réel, et dans leur milieu de vie, la santé mentale des enfants et adolescents suscitent un intérêt croissant. Cependant, le manque d'instruments de mesure de santé perçue validés pour l'évaluation écologique instantanée représente un frein à la mise en œuvre et l'évaluation optimales de ces interventions. L'objectif de la présente étude était de valider la version anglophone de l'EMOWI (« Ecological Momentary Wellbeing Instrument »), une échelle picturale et numérique conçue pour mesurer le bien-être instantané des adolescents et dont les propriétés psychométriques ont déjà été validées dans sa version francophone. La théorie classique des tests et la théorie de la réponse à l'item ont été mobilisées pour évaluer la dimensionnalité, la fiabilité et la validité de l'échelle auprès d'un échantillon de 2504 adolescents canadiens anglophones participant à l'étude de cohorte COMPASS. Nous avons ensuite examiné le fonctionnement différentiel des huit items de l’échelle selon le genre et la nationalité des répondants, en combinant l'échantillon canadien avec l'échantillon d'adolescents français issu du projet EXIST utilisé dans la première étude de validation. L'analyse factorielle confirmatoire a confirmé l'hypothèse d'unidimensionnalité de l’échelle (erreur quadratique moyenne d'approximation=0,066). La cohérence interne était élevée (oméga de McDonalds=0,87; indice de séparation des personnes=0,84) et les statistiques d'ajustement étaient satisfaisantes pour tous les items. Les corrélations avec les échelles existantes étaient conformes aux hypothèses préétablies. Le fonctionnement différentiel des items était statistiquement significatif mais négligeable en termes d'amplitude de l'effet pour plusieurs items, offrant la possibilité de comparaisons des scores entre genres et nationalités. La version anglophone de l'EMOWI semble être un outil valide et fiable pour mesurer le bien-être instantané des adolescents. Son utilisation en pratique pourrait contribuer à la conception et à l'évaluation d'interventions écologiques instantanées dans le champ de la santé mentale des enfants et adolescents dans le cadre d'études internationales.
