Abstract

Objetivo: Mapear as evidências da associação entre a contenção mecânica e o delirium em idosos internados em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva (UTIs). Métodos: Trata-se de uma revisão de escopo que seguiu as diretrizes propostas pelo Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Onde foram utilizados os descritores: "Unidade de Terapia Intensiva", "Delirium", "Idoso" e "Restrição Física", assim como seus sinônimos em inglês e espanhol, nas bases de dados National Library of Medicine's (PubMedⓇ), SCOPUS e Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHLⓇ). Resultados: A amostra final foi composta por 11 manuscritos, onde evidenciaram que a temática é uma preocupação recente e global. A quase totalidade dos estudos foram longitudinais ou transversais, com descrição das medidas de incidência e prevalência do delirium na UTI e seus respectivos fatores de risco, como por exemplo a contenção mecânica. Considerações finais: As evidências apontam uma correlação importante entre a mobilidade física prejudicada, o uso da contenção mecânica e o desenvolvimento de quadros de delirium. No entanto essas correlações necessitam de mais investigações, principalmente se a contenção mecânica, enquanto variável preditora, é causalidade para o desenvolvimento do delirium.
