Le football est le sport le plus regardé et le plus pratiqué dans le monde. Si cette pratique est quantitativement dominée par les hommes, elle est néanmoins de plus en plus investie par les femmes. Cette contribution permet une approche comparée de l’histoire du football pratiqué par les femmes dans une région en France AURA (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) et une province au Canada (province du Québec) en s’intéressant aux influences de la géographie et de la culture sur la construction d’un espace footballistique. Nous nous demandons dans quelle mesure un système sportif est influencé par l’organisation géographique du territoire ? Et ainsi, si au sein de ces systèmes sportifs, les hommes et les femmes sont inclu·es de manière égalitaire ? Est-ce qu’en fonction des sports pratiqués, les espaces sportifs sont construits différemment ? Cette contribution offre une courte présentation de l’histoire de la pratique du football par les femmes en France et au Québec, puis une explication des modalités d’organisation du football dans les deux pays et l’influence de ces systèmes culturels de pratique sportive sur les géographies sportives. Notre échelle d’observation est double, d’une part au niveau macro en s’intéressant à la géographie des pays et d’autre part au niveau micro à travers une illustration centrée sur l’usage des vestiaires sportifs.
