In connection with expansion of mining production, the need for grinding balls. In connection with this, several new ball rolling mills were put into operation, one of which is the 60–120 mill at EVRAZ NTMK, which is currently one of the leading mills in this area. This ball rolling mill only mill where 5 grade large diameter balls are produced (100, 120 mm). The further development of grinding ball production is relevant, both in technology of their production, achieving high quality balls, energy processes efficiency and testing methods. Mill 60–120 has a high level of automation, including system for tracking float flow for each fabrication and conditional cells. Has system for automatically monitoring parameters throughout the entire technological chain of the site. On this mill, balls are produced with degree of geometry accuracy that is 5–8 times higher than GOST requirements. Brand assortment and heat treatment modes have been developed, intended for both cascade and waterfall types of grinding. Work is underway to continuously improve and improve quality of grinding balls, for which it is planned to build an R&D center. In this centre will house: an experimental hardening installation, an experimental ball mill, a Pin on Belt installation, a Dry Wheel installation, a diffractometer, a falling ball testing installation and many other installations. Them will need for research and development of new materials and technologies in order to improve quality of grinding balls.
